On Saturday, December 21st, the Lance Armstrong Foundation in conjunction with RMF donated two tandem bicycles to Codi and Trevor Garcia of Denver, Colorado. The twin brothers were diagnosed with retinoblastomas at 4 months of age. As a result of their cancer, Trevor had both eyes removed and Codi had one eye removed. Codi's remaining visual aquity is 20/200. Both boys were thrilled with their new tandems.
Four members of LAF's Peleton Project were on hand to support the boys and to take them on their inaugural ride. A celebrity was on hand as well. Matt King, US Paralympic Tandem Cyclist and RMF board member, came to meet the children and offer some words of encouragement and inspiration to everyone.
In addition, Elizabeth Romero, 5 years old, received a tandem during the same event. She is the sister of Emily Romero, RMF's first bike recipient in July 2001. You can see there pictures by pressing here for the link.
